This year's RIXC Art Science festival with the title Symbiotic Sense(s) will take place from October 23-25, 2024, in Riga, Latvia, exploring art, technology, and collective intelligence from the perspective of sensual perception and extended cognition. The festival, positioned at the intersection of symbiotic art aesthetics and visionary scientific paradigms, aims to embrace symbiotic thinking, based on a close collaboration between nature and culture, combining individual responsibility with collective action towards a more symbiotic future.
On October 23, 2024, at 16:00, at the Neiburgs Hotel, the RIXC festival will be introduced by media art theorist and curator Eric Kluitenberg (NL), who will reveal the holistic patterns of coexistence among living beings, or zoë (life, from Greek), including both humans and non-humans, in a symbiosis of art, ecology, and technology.
Eric Kluitenberg in his lecture "ReGenerate. Designing the Grand Zoöperation" will present a new kind of "design" in which all living creatures - humans and non-humans - coexist in a structured way, protecting the interests of all life or zoë (life, from the Greek), which as defined by the researcher Klaas Kuitenbrouwer can be combined in a Zoöp or new organisational model. The central idea of this "big zoöperation" (cooperation between zoë) is to create new practices and cultures of ecological restoration - a way of working in all spheres not only with the aim of causing as little damage as possible, but also of directly contributing to the improvement of the ecological situation and integrity of a given place or process - from Net-Zero to Net-Positive. As part of this idea, Kluitenberg will present a new initiative: a festival for ecological art, design and regenerative culture in the "Green Heart" region - a green, mostly rural area surrounded by the urban agglomerations of the Randstades (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague, Leiden).
In collaboration with RIXC, the Centre for New Media Culture, Eric Kluitenberg has contributed significantly to the development of a new techno-ecological perspective. He is the author of the concept behind the 2011 RIXC Festival "Techno-Ecologies," which introduced the audience to Félix Guattari's The Three Ecologies, a framework that significantly shaped the future of RIXC.
