Soil – this earth's thin skin which represents a main resource for ensuring future food, yet about which we know much less then about oil – will be used as a perspective to discuss and explore the changing landscape of Europe.

The Soil Future, a 3-day symposium will take place from November 2 to 5 2015 in Liepaja, during New Media art festival iWeek. iWeek encourages and promotes discussions, cooperation and the sharing of experience, knowledge and various possibilities for creative expression. The festival brings together students, new and emerging artists, new media art experts, art critics, media art educators, researchers and other interested participants from around the world.

The “Soil future” symposium will focus on themes such as “soil and food future”, “green energy and open source technologies”, “effects of climate change on agricultural changes”, exploring transformative potential of arts in dealing with climate change issues.

Symposium is a part of Changing Weathers project, which is focusing on migration (and exchange) of people, capital, ideas, traditional and local knowledge, scientific knowledge, open source technologies and methodologies. It is implemented by the partners both from the European “core” and its political and economic “periphery”, from countries of the East and of the West, from the North and from the South.

We encourage artists, scientists, cultural researchers, environmentalists, and other lateral thinkers, to apply for “Soil future” symposium. We are welcoming proposals for the workshops until September 27, 2015. Please send abstract (200-250 words) and your short bio to rixc@rixc.lv.
