RIXC Art Science festival 2016 announces conference keynotes by Christiane Paul (US) and Jussi Parikka (UK/FI). The festival opening – September 29, 2016, the National Library of Latvia, Riga.

 

Christiane Paul is the Director of the Media Studies Graduate Programs and Associate Professor of Media Studies at The New School, NY, and Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She has written extensively on new media arts and lectured internationally on art and technology. Her recent books are A Companion to Digital Art (forthcoming Blackwell-Wiley); Digital Art (Thames and Hudson, 3rd revised edition, 2015).

Jussi Parikka is a media theorist, writer and Professor in Technological Culture & Aesthetics at Winchester School of Art (University of Southampton). Parikka has a PhD in Cultural History from the University of Turku, Finland and in addition, he is Docent of Digital Culture Theory at the University of Turku, Finland. Parikka has published widely on digital culture, media theory and visual culture. His work on media archaeology has gathered a lot of positive international attention and awards. He is currently working on several projects, including on humanities labs with Lori Emerson (Boulder, Colorado) and Darren Wershler (Concordia) and editing the 2nd, revised edition of Digital Contagions for publication in 2016.

RIXC Art and Science Festival Conference 2016 focuses on networked responses to geophysical, geopolitical and socio-cultural shifts. It will take place from September 29 until October 1, 2016 in Riga.

The call for conference abstracts is still open!
DEADLINE: May 15, 2016

Welcome to submit your conference proposal consisting of:
- keywords 5–6,
- an abstract 250 words,
- biography of the author(s) 200 words each.

Themes:

  • data interpretations, mapping the archives and future of networked art

  • contemporaneity and eco-aesthetics in media art practice

  • geophysical, geopolitical and socio-cultural shifts across Europe

  • next economy: peer-to-peer models, “art-ups” and creative / social entrepreneurship
