The “Objectcompositions” exhibition by Martins Rokis will take place from September 10 until September 18, 2016, at the RIXC Gallery(address: 11. novembra krastmala 35, Riga). The opening – on September 9 at 19.00.
A tag – every internet user knows an index term assigned to a piece of information, a type of meta-information that captures knowledge about an information resource. If you imagine data as an ocean then there would be islands of information formed by the collective classifying habits of users. The navigation from a tag to tag is exciting as the views about which things and topics are related to others.
The sound installation tends to record these creations by the logics of collective mind, using Freesound free depository of online audio files. Custom-made program initiates the process which automatically chooses the sound objects by particular parameters and searches for the next similar ones based on the information provided by added tags. The process results in a multichannel sound environment, the notes of the composition are collective mind, sense assigned and cultural layers.
Martins Rokis is interested in the borders of human perception and subjective experience. He performs at the concert of experimental music, creates audiovisual installations for exhibitions and sound pieces for multichannel systems. Martins has successfully participated in several festivals, art galleries and other venues both in Latvia and abroad.
The exhibition will open on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 19.00 at the RIXC Gallery (11. novembra krastmala 35, entrance from Minsterejas iela) and will remain on view until September 18, 2016.
Hours: Monday – closed; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 14.00 – 19.00; Saturday and Sunday 12.00 – 18.00. Free entrance.
