In science, computing, and engineering, a black box is a device, system or object which can be viewed in terms of it's inputs and outputs or transfer characteristics, without any knowledge of its internal workings. Black boxes which make an integral part of today's living space – TVs, computers, smartphones etc. – become even more impercievable in the shadow behind the flickering light emited by the blue screens. Black boxes are looked up, opened and explored only after a fatal system crash.

Eight emerging media artists brake into the black boxes and intervene in the hidden processes thus revealing alluring errors of the system in the digital image and video art exhibition “Blue Screens, Black Boxes” taking place in Liepaja.

Artists: Uldis Hasners, Gustavs Lociks, Santa France, Diana Lelis, Madara Kļavinska, Jānis Jankevics, Pēters Riekstiņš, Eltons Kūns.

Exhibition is open from August 12 until August 21, 12.00 – 18.00 in the Art and Research Lab of Liepāja University in Liepaja, Kūrmājas pr. 13.

Monday, Tuesday – closed. Entrance free.

The opening of the exhibition: on August 12 at 19.00.
