Opening of exhibition "Talk to me" by Rasa and Raitis Šmits at art space "Civita Nova" of concert hall "Great Amber" will take place at Tuesday, September 5, 17.00.
“To grow or not to grow – that is the question” – this was an anonymous message left for the bean plants grown by artists Rasa Smite and Raitis Smits at the start of the “Talk to Me” human-plant communication research project.
The project has been realized as impressive exhibitions both in Latvia (in kim? Contemporary Art Center, National Library of Latvia, Latvian Railway History Museum) and abroad (Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland, France and other). Also, this time the artists are interested in the following question: Which words do the beans wish to hear to grow and reach the ceiling of the concert hall Great Amber? The artists invite to tell them to the beans online at http://talktome.rixc.lv or using the console and online interface placed in the concert hall. Text messages sent online will be read out aloud to the plants day and night. There will be an option to choose the voice in which the computer will play the messages to the beans through the loudspeakers – one of the plants at the concert hall will be talked to in female voice, the other – in male voice. The messages will be collected and analyzed, calculating the most frequently used words and exploring the relations between the words used together. Data about the most popular words used by each sex will be analyzed online; the installation will feature also time-lapse video of the project in past years. The video has been created in collaboration with the artist Martins Ratniks.
The exhibition will be open until September 30, 2017. Monday to Saturday: 10.00 – 20.00, Sunday: 10.00 – 15.00. Free entrance.
