RIXC Center for New Media Art offers a unique experience for youths (under the age of 30) who are eager to reflect on how urban digital arts can contribute to climate engagement to participate in an international Nature Data Narratives arthathon online on Zoom, June 14, 2023 from 13:15 to 16:30 CET (14:15-17:30 Latvia time) which is organized by Public Art Lab in Berlin and to win a cash prize! This is the third AUGE 2ND arthathon which is a short, intensive, workshop, keynote lecture and discussion program for youths to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

We will offer 3 prizes of 500 euros for each project proposal submitted after the Artathon. One of the projects will be showed at Milan MEET Culture Center in 2024 for the final event (travel cost included). The project application link will be shared after the event.
Four online groups of young people on Zoom led by facilitators, artists and experts will reflect on how urban digital arts can contribute to climate engagement on one of the 4 sub-themes:
Eco data: visualization of environmental data
Artivism: creative power for political placemaking
Public Virtual Realities: augmented playful experiences for climate awareness
Climate colonization: exploitation of resources and nature for human belonging
You will spend a multicultural day online, participating in thematic lectures and discussions with youths from Milan, Barcelona, Riga, Gdansk and Weimar, designing together solutions for a more just and sustainable future.

The one-hour Symposium ‘Nature Data Narratives’ willl explore the potential of ‘how urban digital arts can contribute to climate engagement’.
The Symposium will take place online during the Media Architecture Biennal 2023 in Torronto and onsite at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar connected with 4 European cities (Riga, Milan, Gdansk and Barcelona).

Rasa Smite, media artist and director of RIXC Center for Media Cultures (Riga, Latvia)
Sabine Niederer and Refik Anadol will open different perspectives how we can collect and visualize data in meaningful creative scenarios, Ilana Altman will explore how the engagement can be brought to a closer public sphere and Rasa Smite will reflect on what impact eco-art can have in a global context.
The arthathon is a part of AUGE Second project which is co-created by MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan, Public Art Lab in Berlin, Public Art Lab in Berlin, Espronceda in Barcelona, Laznia in Gdansk and RIXC Center for New Media Art in Riga. 5 arthathons will be held in each respective country on-site and online. They will each focus on a specific topic such as media literacy and digital awareness (MEET), avatar & metaverse, gender and identity (Espronceda), nature data narratives (Public Art Lab), blockchain and future economies (RIXC) and democracy and public health (Laznia)!
