The European Media Art Platform (EMAP) Networking Conference is taking place from March 8-9. Today March 8 is the opening day of EMAP Networking Conference featuring presentations from all of the selected artists, including the RIXC/EMAP Artist of the Year, Carl Emil Carlsen.
This year's selected artists for the European Media Art Platform’s residency programme take on unusual connections and current issues in a variety of ways. They explore the coexistence of urban centers and natural ecosystems, illuminate exciting possibilities for interplanetary existence, confront current scepticism about technology, investigate "techlore", and work between art and artistic research.
The residency programme is an important part of EMAP's mission to support media artists in their creative process. It provides artists with the time, space, and resources they need to develop their ideas and push the boundaries of media art. The programme also fosters international collaboration and exchange, enabling artists to connect with others from different cultural backgrounds and work in new environments. In addition to the residency programme, the EMAP Networking Conference also features presentations, panel discussions, and workshops on a variety of topics related to media art. Participants have the opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field, share their own experiences, and connect with others who share their passion for media art.
On March 9 from 16:00-20:00, Onassis Stegi, as part of the EMAP network, will open a discussion on the question of how value chains are developed and disrupted around the process of creating media works. The event will be held at the Upper Stage venue and will also be available via live streaming.

The discussion will focus on question of how value chains are developed and disrupted around the process of creating media works: as the very definition of what constitutes a media work constantly shifts, and the creators are increasingly enmeshed in an omnipresent technological environment, the logistics, economics, and business practices that envelope the creative process are of paramount importance for critically appreciating the culture we are producing. Aiming at fostering the conditions for the creation of impactful and critical media Art, we approach media works as performative objects that are fundamentally intertwined not just with their production context but also with their dissemination pathways and the creative and institutional context within which they are created: a media work comes into existence far before it is created, and it will exist for a long time after its digital or material incarnation. What can we learn from it?
The conference will bring together representatives from Greek and international arts organizations and production houses, as well as artists, researchers, and curators in order to exchange insights, perspectives, and tools related to the production, distribution, research, and development of new media arts.
Onassis Stegi is the place where contemporary culture meets aesthetics and science. The place where courageous, restless, daring Greek artists find the means to showcase their work; the place where international collaborations are nurtured; the stage on which the boundaries between science, art, society, education, learning and politics are renegotiated. Above all, Onassis Stegi is the space where questions are asked which feed the mind and spirit, which query givens, with this ideal ultimate goal: generating actions, interventions and ideas which shape and shake society.
We look forward to seeing you there!
