Diffusion (variation b) 2014 by Voldemārs Johansons /Diffusion/ is a cycle of works that employ kinetic sounding units to produce a spatial sound field. These objects tap into electronic networks and monitor the traffic in attempt to gather input data for the sonic processes that they conduct. At the same time they perform a real-time translation of the raw data into audio signals to be diffused in the surrounding environment. This sonification creates a stochastic mass of sound that reflects on the activity within the given network.
The variation b. of the project analyses transactions on the crypto-currency network Bitcoin in realtime.
Thus the function of the object relies on the availability of Internet connection and the activity
of the transactions, each of which is represented as sonic event.
