RIXC Center for New Media Art offers a unique experience for 30 participants (under the age of 30) who are eager to develop new ideas and participate in an international ideathon which is organized by MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan. Ideathon is a short, intensive, workshop-like experience for students to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

On 10th of November, participants will have the chance to take part in an online Zoom conference and discussion on the topic of diversity and social inclusion and to look together for the answer to the question: "How to create a more inclusive and diverse European Union through art, design and digital creativity?"

This ideathon will feature two keynote speakers: Muriel, born in 1996, who will talk about the LGBTQ community and body positivity. And Tommy Kuti, Afro-Italian rapper who will perform the songs on his album that tell his story as a second generation Italian.

The ideathon is a part of AUGE | Augmented Europe project which is co-created by MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan, Public Art Lab in Berlin, MADE Group in Thessaloniki and RIXC Center for New Media Art in Riga. 4 ideathons will be held in each respective country online and on-site in each city (Milan, Berlin, Riga, Thessaloniki) – between October 2020 to May 2021 – involving about 140 young people each (n. 50 onsite + 30 online from the three partners’ cities). Each ideathon will be attended by participants from the respective country, but thanks to social media, young people from other countries will also be able to participate online. Each Ideathon will focus on a European challenge as a glue of a common vision/dream for the future Europe, as well as a goad to drive the active participation: Climate change/Diversity and social inclusion/ Beyond Nationalities: Connecting People and Places/Youths, future and startups.

AUGE | Augmented Europe is aimed at enhancing the impact of digital technologies and digital creativity for the active citizenship and active participation of a huge number of young people to the political debate about the future of Europe, allowing the sharing of innovative ideas for a joint creation of a new EU awareness, and a renewed sense of European belonging.

AUGE embraces a twin-fold notion of “augmented”:

  • a transnational community of youths going beyond cultural and linguistic barriers, that meet on a physical/digital space to co-create values and ideas for the future of Europe

  • a renewed and meaningful sense of Europe, based on the past but that looks straight at the future, focusing on societal challenges and on how youths can contribute to shape the EU political agenda.

How an augmented Europe could meet young generation going beyond cultural and physical barriers?

The today’s digital technologies allow setting of augmented spaces where people from different countries could meet real-time and co-create things, ideas, scenarios.

AUGE will focus in particular on two approaches:

  1.  The social media cast: a movement in online video that combines traditional media content, social networking, and interactive community to create a unique experience for participants on the Web

  2. The connecting cities: it’s aimed at building up a connected infrastructure of media facades and projection sites to circulate artistic and social contents, also enabling citizens to participate directly in co-creation of contents

The first ideathon will take place on 30th October and is organized by MEET, exploring the theme of "Diversity and Social Inclusion". The Latvian ideathon will take place on November 28 in Liepaja, which is intended to discuss the possible solutions for climate change.

The center hosting the ideathon conducts research to define a clear problem that’s worth solving during the event.

The result of the research is a brief report (presentation format)

  • showing insights into the problem (data and facts)

  • defining the “tracks” the ideathon will focus on (not just “inclusion”, but “LGBT rights”)

  • proposing a How Might We question to solve during the Ideathon

The report will be shared with other partners 2 weeks before the Ideathon, so that it can be forwarded to all participants.

Together with the report, the center hosting the ideathon will create also a Google form to be distributed among all participants where we ask:

  • to reply to the Call for Ideas, in the form of a long sentence (300 characters) on the specific “How might we” question of the ideathon

  • to express their preferences on the 4 tracks of the ideathon

      1. Job opportunities

      2. Social media

      3. Body shaming

      4. Spaces

After getting the filled forms, the hosting center will:

  • analyze all the collected ideas and visualize them on the Mural whiteboard;

  • add all the confirmed participants to the Slack channels of the ideathon, according to preferred tracks.
